Dr. Greg Sackos is the Superintendent/Principal of Desert Center Unified School District, where he is entering his fifth year. Before this role, he held leadership positions in several Arizona school districts, including superintendent roles in Morristown, Bouse, Salt River Pima Maricopa Schools, and Hopi Junior-Senior High School. His experience includes working in rural and remote areas, as well as Native American communities.
With 36 years in education, Greg is passionate about challenging students academically while supporting their social and emotional growth. He believes in rigorous academic programs and has integrated the AVID (Achievement via Individual Determination) program in four different districts to support College and Career Readiness.
Greg earned his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Arizona State University, where his research focused on evaluating Arizona school superintendents. This work led him to collaborate with the Maricopa County Education Service Agency on the nationally recognized REIL (Rewarding Education in Instruction and Leadership) Initiative, which aimed to improve student achievement in six large urban districts in Maricopa County.
Greg is married to Dr. Milissa Sackos, Assistant Superintendent at Scottsdale Unified School District. Together, they are proud parents of two daughters. Outside of work, the family enjoys outdoor activities like hiking, camping, fishing, and riding quads in Arizona.
Greg is dedicated to promoting effective educational practices and has presented at numerous conferences, including the Riverside County Office of Education, Arizona Professors of Educational Administration (APEA), Native American Grant School Association (NAGSA), AdvancED, and the Arizona School Administrators Association.
